Peter, That is exactly what happened. The white europeans wanted the land that had, by tradition, been the hunting grounds of the native Indians, and used force to wrest it from their ownership. As the European settlers moved farther west, they had no respect for the people that had lived there for over 10,000 years, and stole the land from these innocent, uneducated, people. When the Indians decided enough was enough, and started to fight back, they were called savages, and barbarians, but the Europeans were the barbarians that stopped at nothing to steal the land from the rightful owners.
The Indians had no concept for the greed of the white man, and were puzzled at their refusal to honor treaties, and promises. |
