Paul - The more diversified AMD is the better. Even now it could be hit badly if any one of its Tier 1 OEM's pulled out or suffered set-backs publicly attributable to its AMD-based products.

DELL's adoption of AMD would undoubtedly boost the stock price in the short-term (which is my main interest) but it would also make AMD vulnerable to a DELL pull-out down the road. Everytime DELL wanted a better contract AMD could expect to see the same kind of high-profile public musings about the relationship we now see from DELL vis a vis Intel.

IMO DELL is very powerful in its relationship with Intel and might expect to achieve the same kind of influence over AMD to the detriment of the other OEM's.

AMD is trying to develop sufficient power to handle this kind of situation - if Ruiz words are to be believed. He wants it to be "master of its own destiny".
