This so-called January rally fizzled badly last year, whatever its cause. I don't readily see why retirement funds should play a bigger role from mid-january to mid-March than other times of the year. there is an annual publication, along with a web-site, called The Stock Traders Almanac which extensively documents these stock market anomolies. With lower trading costs and new financial instruments such as ETFs , well-known anomolies could suddemly be exploited profitably. Then everyone did that, and the anomolies vanished like the dodo bird and passnger pigeon. seems like there is no substitute for good stock picking, now made more difficult by the competition from hedge funds, programmed trading, and who knows what else.
