We should also appreciate how previously unbridgeable gulfs between faiths have been bridged as a result of tragedies. In a callous and barbaric act, the 7/7 suicide bombers killed so many innocent Londoners. But this did not stop Londoners from volunteering to pull out those under the Margalla Tower rubble. This for me was the vision of the year, the thought that has dominated me since the October tragedy. I will always remain grateful to those who helped us out in our time of need; the Cubans, the Americans flying hundreds of sorties to save limb amputations. The October 8 earthquake was most painful. But I also see the silver lining. As humans, we came out big. We should be proud of our achievements.
