Issues concerning allowing shorting:
1) Has been done in the past without any outcry of protest.
2) Isn't the ultimate goal that some charity will receive donations. If I recall the horse that won several of the Triple Crown races last year how much of the winning purse donated to a charity...someone people think horse racing is bad...but I bet this charity accepted the money. Should this person's selections win the contest will not a charity receive donations?
3) Considering the selections that some of us have made in the past and apparently this year...wouldn't you consider them a gamble?
4) When you consider that only one stock of those selected in a long portfolio could offset all the others that are at a loss and thus make this a winning portfolio for the contest..and wouldn't the same apply to a short portfolio...one stock performing with fantastic results on the short side offsetting all the others being profitable.
5)As to the claim that in a bad biotech market this would enhance this individual's portfolio for winning the contest, wouldn't it also be adverse if the biotech markets soars?
6) Sure don't want to get in a poker game with those opposing this entry...can see now that with new rules after the cards are dealt, my Royal Flush with be beaten by a pair of deuces.
