I assumed you were letting it drop on purpose.

I wasn't "letting it drop." I was focusing on one question at a time, the question on the table. Blame it on my training... <g>

I was as stunned as you were when it seemed as thought some folks were prepared to allow the president to do anything he deemed necessary for national security. I had flashbacks to the Japanese internment. It was like the proverbial pulling of teeth but I finally got a couple of people to acknowledge that they really didn't mean that. Nuance isn't a prominent feature of communications there. And there may be many people who are, in fact, prepared to give the president carte blanche. But I learned that at least some of the people who sound like they would actually wouldn't. They're just using the typical overly-excited rhetoric.

Likewise I was gratified to see you say that you supported spying on those communications, as long as it's done properly. Among the folks who have expressed disapproval, it's likewise difficult to differentiate between those who object to any communications tapping and those who are reacting primarily to the administration's attitude about its authority and the above attitude of the administration's supporters. The rhetoric is polarizing on both sides. And I often react to polarizing rhetoric on both sides and try to talk people down.
