The world is absolutely full of people who are in more or less dire need of help being defended against a minority of thugs who rule them by force. We're not in Iraq because of that. The only reason we're in Iraq is because of oil. Not because of Israel, not because of nation building, not because Iraq posed the slightest threat to us militarily, but because of oil, bottom line. Having a born again recovered alcoholic president who sincerely believes he's on some mission from God and a compliant congress in shock from bin Laden's 9/11 terrorist sucker punch has made it possible to pull the trigger is all.
