Can you say extremely heavy shorting and Margin calls. Someone dumps a hell of a lot fo shares any time it hit close to 33. Actually you could have traded it from 32 1/4 to 33 and back at least 3 times today. This could just be more of the same people who shorted heavily at 45 and 55 just a month or so ago trying to cause a technical breakdown and scare the small investor. If I didnt know these games I would be hella scared right now but no matter what even if ASND only makes 0.25 eps its still worth a lot more than 40/share. I think even at the solomon conference the company had said they themselve dont know just how they will do but they are doing as well as can be expected with the merger and all. Although I woudnt suggest anyone to average down but its way below even the bottom, I am very surprised that its not above 36 and just goes to show you the power the shorts have when there is no definite news one way or the other. Who else would be selling their shares at below cost? Even dumb fuds have to show a loss and unless they know more than anyone else which is unlikely since by now it would have come out and all they need to do it wait a few weeks, a 40% loss is not any worse than a 40% loss when it could end up being a 40% profit or at least a 20% profit even with very bad news.

The same bull all the time.. coms/dell/intc/amat/pair etc etc etc.. Just look at the pattern..

But on another note the new TAX laws could be havign some effect..

Hi Nancy, a little speculative thinking on the cutoff gain/loss Oct 31st date.

If your stock looked like it was headed down, of course you'd sell with the cutoff looming closer and closer. What manager would want to be holding a loser in their portfolio. If your stock looked like its rising you might want to buy more. Do you think the cutoff's nearby closing date is accentuating the selling and buying of stocks that are moving up or down, while having less or no affect on stocks that are flat. Wouldn't this be a great time to "nudge" a stock one way or the other based on your positioning?

Second thought is that after October 31st, wouldn't one want to sell out of the up affected stocks and get into the depressed down affected stocks? Of course their prospects would be weighed more heavily, but is this a seasonal or SEC reg Oct. 31 phenomena?
