I can agree with the above statement but still hope that the gang who couldnt seem to find the target is doing a better job at it now than before. Can you concede that that's possible??

Michael, I don't doubt that the military and civilians have learned things over the past almost 3 years. However, my perspective is this: the initial presumptions that most Iraqis would unreservably welcome us, that those who opposed us would be shocked and awed into a quiescent, frustrated and hostile silence if not acceptance, and that the politics of Iraq would simply fall into place in a post-Saddam environment were so wrong-headed that failure was almost guaranteed from the start.

The "planners" (if they can be called that) of this operation simply ignored the complexities of the country and the region. I know you don't believe we've already lost in Iraq, that there is still hope for a decent outcome from a US perspective. I'm afraid I disagree--the biggest question in my mind is, how bad will the outcome be?
