<<There has been a controversy for years--since testing for DNA first became available--regarding whether DNA testing should be available for old, closed cases.>>

A&E had a case where a guy was convicted of raping a 6 year old girl and killing her mother. The DNA didn't match but the girl identified him, even though the room was dark and she was stressed. He went for a retrial and was turned down. Years later he noticed another convict from his neighborhood who smoked a cigarette and tossed the butt. He grabbed the butt and sent it to his lawyer who had a DNA test done and bingo, it was a match. The smoker later confessed. After 7 years in jail the first convict solved the crime and was released.

Another case in Illinois, a guy who had done 10 of 20 was released on parole when a DNA test was done on his rape case that came up negative and the victim confessed it wasn't him. This idiot was released on parole until the governor signed his pardon. First night out he goes to a bar and gets in a fight. With a pardon in his pocket for the original crime he has to serve the rest of his time for violating parole.
