If there was a good way to predict when range-bound markets would switch to trending markets and vice versa, this trading thing would be a whole lot easier, wouldn't it?

Oh, wait a minute... That's what this Ewave stuff is all about, isn't it. :)

I'm testing out a trading strategy using this ratio. It has had 15 straight wins or scratches since Dec. 1st, until this week. So I backtested it to the last time it "failed", meaning a large loss, and it was at the beginning of October. During the widely described '3' up. The prior impulse move in the indices.

I believe I've heard something to the effect that markets only trend 20% of the time, so my trading has always focused on methods that work well the other 80% of the time. But the big money can be made (or lost) during the 20% of the time that the market is in a strong trend. Being able to tell when to switch methods is the key.

That's the theory that I am working toward a practical solution to. It has been a bumpy road.
