There is a possibility that Wooddy is the son of a senior VP at Exxon. I've heard that he has a great deal of experience in the oil business. As to why he might of left Chevron and joined AIPN, I offer the following excellent post from AOL:

Let's cut Mr. Wooddy a little slack. He has a pretty damned impressive resume for a guy who's only 40 years old. Those of us (me included) in our 50s and older began our careers at a time when it was understood that it was desirable to stay with one company for your entire working life and rise within that company. Your status would be determined by how close your parking place was to the club house at the country club. The sharp young people of Wooddy III's generation want to build their own nests. Wooddy III, by virtue of being literally raised in the oil community of Houston and learning his trade early and mastering the skills of field management and through whatever twist of fate landing in Kazakstan when he did, looks to me to be the right guy in the right place at the right time for AIPN. Hats off to Dr. Farris for a great hire. Wooddy III's decision is to leave the certainty of Chevron's velvet womb and build something on his own. I assume that with success at AIPN comes substantial stock options, which is fine with me. -- Good luck to us all.

Cheers...Faris
