I agree as a long-time lurker. I sold half of my AMD long today and I'll do the same if AMD doubles again. I've been in and out of AMD for the last 6 years and it has NEVER broken out.

My supposition is that desktops are dead.

The entertainment center concept is a great one but I'm not convinced it's here yet. Had a Gateway in 1993 saying it was the way to go. Built one from the ground up (underclocked AMD, old AMP case, logitech integrated wireless keyboard/mouse, etc, etc) until it blew up (a little TOO undercooled). Mod Xbox's have been a reasonable approach now for years.

Laptops are the growth market. Will AMD be able to capture this market? All I hear is Centrino-blah blah blah and right now Intel is blowing away AMD in marketing. Will the transition to 65 nm before AMD have any REAL WORLD differences? Same with dual core? Same with 64 bit (when will Vista be compelling to use as a 64 bit solution) As a former overclocker, I've given up the game. Linux will is great for appliances and people who have loads of time on their hands (waiting for the OS to compile, etc, etc) Today's computers are fine for the majority of the non-gamers out there (my xbox 360 is my gaming solution). I'm concerned about features (bluetooth, 802.11g, 17 inch screen, battery life, cost).

Can anyone make a coherent argument for/against buy/sell/hold? As for Intel, I think their growth prospects are limited at best.
