There are people around who know nothing about Christianity. My father was a literature prof, and he once had a grad student ask him, "Who is this fellow Jesus Christ that keeps getting mentioned in the book?" At least that student was Chinese, so he had some excuse for not knowing.

There are many more in this country who may have heard of Christianity, but are unfamiliar with even its most basic tenets (thus the Simpsons joke, "Jeebus"). Walk into any college dorm and ask for a show of hands, who recognizes the names Matthew, Mark, Luke and John? I bet you won't get a majority unless it's a religious college.
