Sierra Wireless provides EV-DO modules for Lenovo notebooks Forums \| Related Website \| Source \| Email \| Print \| Rate Friday January 6, 2006 4:14 PM EST - By: Michael Kwan Lenovo has given new life to the ThinkPad line, and now with the addition of EV-DO technological advances from Sierra Wireless, the company certainly feels it is in a good position. Lenovo has opted for the EV-DO PCI Express Mini Card embedded module (MC5720) from Sierra for its new T60 and X60 business laptops. The AirCard Enabled notebooks provide wireless 3G connectivity, with the integration of Mini Card modules. This comes with the backing of 12 years of experience in wireless wide area solutions from Sierra Wireless. The Senior VP of Lenovo’s Notebook Business Unit, Peter Hortensius, said, “The quality of the Sierra Wireless product and the top-notch support the company offered convinced us that Sierra Wireless modules were the best choice as we expand into new platforms.” The AirCard modules come with WHQL-certified USB software driver architecture, the ability to enable/disable NDIS, and superior power management. With the dual-band MC5720 PCI Express Mini Card, which utilizes QUALCOMM’s MSM6500 Mobile Station Modem chipset, users can expect to average 400-700 kbps downloads, peaking at about 2.4 Mbps. The module will also automatically and seamlessly switch to 1X where EV-DO connections are unavailable. All that is left is choosing your provider.
