The "it" to which I referred is the righteous anger of the Angry Left.
Most of my friends are Democrats. I'm a Bush supporter, but I don't tell most of my friends -- not because it would be bad for my business (which is why Dennis Hopper doesn't tell anyone), but just because I don't want to rile up my friends.
Honestly, all I have to do is say the name "Bush" and some of them become hissing, spitting mad. Literally.
Right now, the leadership of the Left is encouraging people to be righteously angry toward Bush and the Boogeymen. It's "cool" to be vocally pissed off about "rightwingers." Just look at John Stewart, the next host for the Academy Awards, for instance. Even Dave Letterman is getting into the act.
I remember when my gradeschool held a mock election between Goldwater and Johnson. I was in the 3rd grade, but my classmates KNEW that Goldwater was Evil and Johnson was Good. Johnson won by a landslide in my school.
Well, the emotional atmosphere today seems little different. There's an anti-Bush bandwagon effect at work. People simply KNOW that Bush is Evil. If you try to maturely talk with them about Bush and the policies of his administration, the Bush "critics" often respond with demeaning jokes. If you persist, they just get hissing, spitting mad. (Did you see how red in the face Letterman became? I taped the show. It's very interesting.)
All this venting by the Angry Left is counterproductive, but I don't think it's permanent. |
