China's demographics aren't entirely favorable. The one child policy will cause their population to age, and it is also creating an imbalance, too many men compared to women. True there is some good reason for China to try and control its population increase, and true men are more likely to be a factor in projecting military power than women, but an ageing, eventually shrinking, imbalanced population is not something that would generally be considered a good long term demographic trend.

We will see if this happens to China. USSR's demographics were not as favorable in the 70's as they are in China now.

Yes the USSR's and now Russia's demographic situation was unfavorable. Their population is shrinking. Also the USSR was more centrally planned, at least for most of its existence, than China is now.
