Sonki and all, What a day today. My screen is almost all red. ASND, MSFT, AMAT, INTC, SNPS and even SUNW. It seem that the MSFT news realy take some effect here. And then I see people on SUNW thread arguing back and forth about wishing either MSFT or SUNW down. I am just sick of that. I hope they should either short one stock and long on the other(SUNW vs. MSFT) and wait until next year instead of arguing there back and forth. I bet they will have NO or less return than long on both. It seem like people like to start a war when there is just some trivial industry common practice(regarding Java). With Java(just a language), how can one see that SUNW and MSFT is at war. If this raises a war, then MSFT windows should already kill Unix or vice versa and there is no need of Java any more. The World is simply much larger to contain more than two OS's and two type of CPUs. There are so many OS out there: Unix, Linux(PC Unix), Dos, Widows, NT, VMS, MacOS, BEs... and so many CPUs out there: Sparc, PA-RISC, Pentium, K6, Mips, ARM,DEC alpha, Power PC, Mot68000 and lot of others. The world is beautiful because there are so many different varieties exiting out there. Not just Bill Gates, Andy Grove, Scott McNeally or Larry Ellison. And enemies often turn into friends. The most opposite are often closes friends like Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. Who knows someday MSFT and SUNW can be the best allies in the industry. I think they should, not just because I own shares in both of them but because they are virtually dominant in two markets that almost not overlap. Why should MSFT be angry at SUNW knowing they will not sell any OS to SUNW with Solaris on them shipped. And why should SUNW be angry at MSFT knowing they are not going to sell Solaris to PC guys like Dell and Compaq. NC is new market out there but it looks like just a better version of X-terminal and is not going to replace home PC either.
Those bold statements made and I guess there is a 99 percent possibility I could be a target of guys from both SUNW or MSFT. That will be a nightmare!! :-)
Anyway, I hope this can be a good shopping season. "High quality tech stocks on sale, 10%-75% off!!" :-).
