you've got to stop saying a market which appreciates 5% is a bear market.

Sure because I've never said that. The markets were at best flat last year Elroy. Dow was down, S&P, Nas flat. Not even 1%.

This pathetic market activity for US markets happens very rarely. 30 years ago it happened, in the 70s after a booming 50s-60s in the markets. In fact, up until the very last stages of the 90s, the 50s were the best market period in the US by far (its a hard measurement though because then the major indices had all the growth companies like the autos and now we have a different index the nasdaq).
