There are Episcopals and then there are Episcopals

I have cousins who belong to the Riverside Church in NYC. They define the far left in attitude, all the time thinking they're mainline Christians.

You'd think they check their declining membership some time, but they're so sure of their rightness the thought never occurs to them.

I was raised in a time when the word "Jesus" was used as an expletive. Remember all those movies when a sentence started, "Jesus, don't do that," or something like that.

I also remember my mother commenting when I did it, "Don't take the Lord's name in vain."

All of which is to say, of course, the self-satisfied, middle-class Christians think the show is okay. They think it's okay if they cease to exist, which they are, because in their rush to be liberal and all embracing, they believe in less and less.

Those who stand for nothing die of ennui.
