If the US sharply cuts back on its purchases by 30% all at once as your math implies, that would be a one time event that again would have an impact only for a matter of a few months. In months after this was absorbed the absence of US growth would not mortally wound the Chinese economy. If one of the major customers of a crack dealer dies, he takes a hit. But the crack dealer lives to work the streets another day -- the dead crack whore fares worse.
