What I found most interesting about it was the point that no prominent person has suggested stopping the program. That's a good point. No prominent person who wish to remain prominent can openly call for the program to stop. If a terrorists succeeds in any fashion, that would be the end of that prominent persons public life. What is clearly wrong is that Bush cites the war as the authority to engage in this program. The problem is there is no end in sight for a war against terrorism. In one way or another we will be faced with terrorism forever. No one that I know of in defending the president has come out to say that the president could not achieve his objective (to protect the American people) within the provisions of FISA. If the administration and those that defend the administration on this were honest, they would have three choices. 1. Adhere to FISA 2. Fix FISA 3. Kill Fisa But, you will notice, no one will clearly come out to say what they want to do with FISA. They choose to obfuscate the matter. Muddy things up.
