Are you asking if the NSA should monitor all E-mail and IMs for keywords and investigate anyone who says something on their list with no warrant based on other probable cause? No way.

OK. Now we're communicating. I think. <g>

That's the kind of data mining they're doing, I think. Not all e-mail but foreign email coming in or out or passing through.

I think they should do that if they have some methodology that is effective, which I presume they do. At the point they're doing it, the email content is not attributable to any person. If they find something hot and want to zero in on that US person, then a warrant is feasible and necessary. Before that it's not feasible.

With that expectation you could not sift all E-mails in America for terms that MIGHT lead you to a bomb plot. No way.

I'm not clear whether you are questioning the feasibility or objecting to the practice on grounds of privacy. Obviously if it's not feasible, they should waste their time. But if it's feasible and effective, I think it's stupid not to do it because it doesn't fit neatly into the warrant paradigm.
