Bellingham Carbon Monoxide Victim Tells His Story
Protect Your Family From Carbon Monoxide

(CBS4) BELLINGHAM A Bellingham father and his two-year-old are safe at home after a silent killer threatened their lives last Wednesday.

Initially, John Piccinin, 34, thought he had the flu, but it turns out, he was suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning.

?Just extremely light-headed ? like if you were to stand up really fast and you would just get a quick head rush? really dizzy, almost as though you were ready to fall over,? said John as he described how he felt as the carbon monoxide started to set in.

John was watching television with his daughter when the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning began to set in. He says he got off the couch and immediately felt dizzy.

John then realized that he had left the car running, and the garage door had not opened.

Instinctively, he moved Hannah to the other side of the house and he collapsed in the bathroom.

The two were rushed to Mass General Hospital for carbon-monoxide poisoning after they were discovered by John?s mother, who placed the 911 call.

"The little girl was ... she was alert, she was breathing," said Rich Nummela, of the Bellingham Police Department. "They were both breathing. The little girl was in better condition than the father was."

John Picinin says was warming up a car because he was getting ready to go pick up a relative.

Now the family's home will be equipped with carbon monoxide detectors.
