Tell you what, a kiddie sister of my friend in Copenhagen back in 1962 had a late stage induced abortion. They first put in a balloon and pumped it up - competing with the fetus for uterine space I guess - then when it didn't quite make it by itself the head as was at the time usual was split up in two pieces thus easier to handle.
