Japan added 1.78 million WCDMA subscribers during December (Docomo 1.54m and VOD 236,000) and 398,000 CDMA subscribers for AU. This is the first time I can remember VOD adding more than 200,000 WCDMA subs so perhaps they are finally starting to see a small amount of traction.

Also, an article about Docomo returning to the top spot for net adds for 2005. This is only true because KDDI bought TU-KA which is losing subscribers. More interestingly, the comment about PTT taking off for Docomo. This would be the first time in a very long time that a new service has caught fire in Japan and actually boosted handset sales. I really hope that this is confirmed by Docomo when they announce earnings. I never would have guessed that PTT would be popular in Japan.

NTT DoCoMo's return to the top spot came amid the popularity of its new "Push Talk" service, which enables up to five people to talk to each other at the same time. Its "wallet" phone service, which adds an electronic money function to a mobile phone, was also favored by users, the association said.
