Bush broke the law. Clearly. No congressman or senator intended to give him any special rights to spy on US citizens without warrants with the rushed-through war powers act. Neither did the writers of the Constitution. especially with the FISA court set up to help with speedy surveillances. But Bush didn't want to leave any paper trails. And we know why.

Bush is not just on thin ice legally, there's no ice there at all. Just very cold water. And time to drop him into it now.

We already know the NSA, DOD and FBI under Bush have been spying on harmless peace groups, vegetarians and environmentalists. The question is, who else? Which senators and presidential candidates, for instance? And when they spy on Arlen SPecter for instance, and find out he has a mistress, do they call him up and say "vote for Alito or we'll tell the world about your mistress". That's how totalitarian states work. Then when Bush is impeached and Alito is the tie-breaking vote to keep GW in power, we see why it was arranged. Which is why it's so insidious and un-American. Bush's illegal spying has little to do with Al Qaida, maybe even nothing. It has to do with expanding his own power illegally and undermining our democracy. So why fight for freedom abroad when Bush is taking it away at home? The winds of freedom are not blowing with this White House.
