john, re:No jobs; no illegal immigration. It wouldn't take much, just put a few company presidents/owners in jail and the message would be broadcast very clearly. End of problem; no jobs no illegal immigration. It's not complicated... except for the politics. Unfortunately, we don't even allow police to ask people their status in this country. How an employer can verify status is beyond their scope. Every illegal has a SSN, although it's not theirs, and can easily provide the required documentation to an employer. Of course in obvious violations or intentionally cases where an employer skirts the law - I would support legal action. Our country coddles illegals at so many levels - it makes one sick.
