Hi Double D,

I usually look for the OBV to confirm the direction of the anticipated
price move. If I get a sell signal the OBV should be sloping down.
If I get a buy signal I look for an upward slope. OBV can
be a leading or lagging signal depending on the other indicators and
settings you use. A change in 9 day RSI will usually lead a change
in OBV for instance. OBV tells you selling and buying pressure
so it is an important confirming indicator for me. I use a 3 day
moving average on OBV to average out the noise. Without the
average I find I can get whipsawed in and out of a stock because
the buy or sell signal may reverse. The average means you can miss
part of the price move though.

A finer indicator of buying pressure is up tick volume but
that requires you have a list of all transactions each day with
the bid and ask at the time of each transaction. This site
gives you selective uptick volume on some stocks.
