If what you say about marriage is true, how did this bum deal for men evolve before suferage?

The new deal you describe of the state assuming the role of husband/father/provider allowing sperm donors to roam around like Johnny Appleseed. Has only evolved since suferage and especially since female voters outnumber male voters.
