Former PictureTel Executive Further Strengthens VideoServer's Management Team
and Brings Extensive Networking Experience to the Table
BURLINGTON, Mass., Sept. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- VideoServer, Inc. (NASDAQ:VSVR), the leader in networked conferencing, announced today the appointment of Khoa Nguyen as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the company. In this role, Nguyen will oversee the day-to-day operations of the company, including engineering, marketing, business development, service and support, and manufacturing. Nguyen will also be instrumental in developing corporate strategy to further VideoServer's leadership position in the real-time multimedia conferencing market and in driving execution of that strategy. Nguyen will report to Robert Castle, president and CEO of VideoServer.
Nguyen joins VideoServer from PictureTel, where he was General Manager of both the Group Systems Division and Network Systems Division, and Chief Technology Officer. Over the course of almost four years at PictureTel, Nguyen led the organizations that designed, developed, produced and marketed that company's industry-leading line of products, including the Concorde 4500 Series, Venue 2000 series and Swiftsite line of group videoconferencing systems and VideoServer-based Montage multimedia conference servers (MCS). He also helped found the personal videoconferencing systems business unit, later known as Personal Systems Division, and its product line.
Prior to PictureTel, Nguyen served as Vice President of Engineering at VTEL, where he was responsible for the development of its MEDIAMAX PC-based group videoconferencing systems, its multipoint products and its desktop videoconferencing systems. Earlier, Nguyen was with IBM for 17 years where he was involved in the research and development of office systems, personal computers, RISC-based computer systems, the UNIX-based operating system known as AIX, and graphic workstations. His work culminated in the introduction of IBM RISC Systems R/S 6000 PowerPC workstations.
"We are delighted to have Khoa Nguyen join the senior management team at VideoServer. He brings to VideoServer outstanding technical depth and business expertise in our core markets," said Robert Castle. "As the opportunities in networked conferencing broaden, Khoa's expertise and leadership in the networking arena will be crucial in helping VideoServer bring to market solutions that help customers leverage the best of both packet-switched and circuit-switched conferencing systems."
"VideoServer is extremely well-positioned -- both in terms of its historical role in leading the industry and in preparing for the emergence of packet-switched, collaborative solutions," said Khoa Nguyen. "I look forward to working with VideoServer's entire management team to continue to grow the business and capitalize on new market opportunities in real-time multimedia."
