MDC COMMUNICATIONS CORPORATION ANNOUNCES PURCHASE OF NEWS CANADA
TORONTO (Ontario), March 26, 1997 -- MDC Communications Corporation of Toronto today announced it has purchased News Canada, a unique multi-media news distribution service also based in Toronto. No terms of the purchase were disclosed.
News Canada is Canada's foremost non-time-sensitive news distribution agency. The company's newspaper columns, in both official languages, reach three out of every five Canadians and appear in an average of 217 different newspapers coast-to-coast .
News Canada will become a member of the Communications and Marketing Services Division within MDC.
"News Canada offers its clients unprecedented media reach across Canada," said Michel Frappier, Communications and Marketing Services Division President. The company offers clients access to 1,250 daily and weekly newspapers, 350 ethnic newspapers, 1,300 magazines, 400 radio stations and 500 TV and cable stations through pre-written and pre-recorded news and feature articles that are print and broadcast ready."
Mr. Frappier said the acquisition of News Canada expands the range of MDC's marketing communications services. It offers other
MDC companies promotional exposure as well as providing MDC's marketing companies with a valuable database of 25,000
communications and marketing contacts.

companies," said Mr. Frappier.
News Canada was started 16 years ago and last year generated more than 20,000 clippings for its clients. With offices in Toronto
and Ottawa, News Canada's clients include the top 200 corporations in Canada as well as government and business associations.
