Yes the DUI issue has, at least in some cases (and some might argue in many) gone to far. And yes that does point out how other issues may be taken too far. But I think issues where there is a real hazard (for example drunk drivers) are more likely to be extended to far, then issues where there is no real direct hazard to other people. If I drive drunk it might wind up killing other people. If I am overweight its unlikely to kill anyone besides myself.

Still its not like politicians and political pressure groups are consistently reasonable. Its possible that anything can be taken to ridiculous lengths. But perhaps a majority of Americans are overweight. It would be politically hard to strongly attack them. Fast food places and such might be an easier target but probably not as easy as tobacco companies or drunk drivers (even drivers who aren't really drunk but get considered to be drunk drivers like your "person that has a glass of wine with dinner").
