Nice save. Still no direct links from SI on the specific question I asked that you referred to.
Yes, of course, I know children are the products of two people.
I know of several parents and relatives who have children, or brothers, or sisters, or aunt, or uncle, or father or mother in Iraq, Afghanistan, and various places around the world right as I speak, all working for this country. As Patriots have done for about 225+years.
I have one long ago uncle who felt so strongly for the Union, and the right for slaves to be free, that at 24 years, a pacifist, and as yet, was unmarried, stop his farming, and signed up for the Union. I have the original letter to his sister (my 2greatgrandmother) stating his thoughts and reasons. He fought in several battles, and ended up being wounded in Pleasant Hill, LA, captured as a POW, and died of his wounds in Confederate hands, one month later.
And he certainly wasn't the only relative who fought for this country so that we today can have the freedom and privilege to even be able to discuss this on internet.
He was someone's child.
He was a volunteer.
He was not a slave, but fought so they could be free.
He was a Lincoln Republican. |
