Looking back, I don't know how I made it through it. I do know I wouldn't be able to do it again. I made up my mind real early that 1) I was not going to turn into one of these people that sleeps til noon and sits around watching soap operas all day, so I got myself up at 4 am every morning and got into CNBC. 2) I was not going to turn into a drunk, so I quit drinking. 3) I was not going to get out of shape. While I was bedridden, I did isometrics. Eventually, I was scheduled to go to rehab 2 hours a day every other day for 15 months. I went every day six days a week for 8 hours a day. I went through my whole exercise program every morning before I left and every night when I came home. I had tears coming down my face from the pain while I was exercising. After the smoke cleared, I came out a fraction of my old self, but people that didn't know me before the accident couldn't tell there was anything wrong with me. It was a one shot deal. I could never go through it again.
