Crimson > Neo-cons apparently worried that the sordid activities of people like Libby and Abramoff will help discredit the movement and increase resistance to their plans for an expanded war in the Mideast.

It must be so. Nonetheless, there is a "falling out amongst the thieves" because Abramoff was certainly helping both the expansion of Israeli settlements and the Zionist takeover of the US Congress. By discrediting him they definitely do weaken the Zionist cause.

Further, by reverting to Jewish morality the author likewise casts aspersions on the philosophy of Zionism, itself, because nowhere in Jewish law, mythology, call it what you will, does it mention that they should steal the Promised Land, as they have done. The idea that God gave the land of Israel to the Jews is simply untrue in terms of Jewish history although it is more than likely, as with the Scofield Bible which is used by the evangelists, that recent Jewish texts have been "updated" to give credence to the State of Israel, thereby "reverse engineering" the religion. I believe this was the case with the American sect called the Lubavitschers, many of whom even claim that their deceased "rebbe" was, in fact, the messiah.

Clearly, the politics and the eschatology go hand in hand.
