Whoa!! Very interesting stuff!!
This is best left to the investigative reporters, though.. The Republicans had better not say a damn thing until they have all of their ducks in a row..
This is really one of my pet peeves, people falsely claiming medals, or exaggerating their accomplishments in order to receive awards for lesser acts than other recipients.
I knew a young E-5 Navy analyst when I was with the Iraq Survey Group.. The young man had been burdened with being the chief analyst dealing with Kurdish related issues, while other sections had Majors and Lieutentant Colonels in charge..
This fellow did great work and was extremely knowlegeable about the area he was charged with.. Yet, when it came time for awards, the Officers were receiving Joint Service Commendation Medals and he didn't get a damn thing..
And the worst part of it was, primarily due to rotation of personnel and lack of a rating chain, when it came time for these folks to come back to the states, they would type up their awards, and then the leadership there would try and decide who should approve of the award or not.
And don't get me wrong, some of these folks deserved their awards. But it just stuck in my craw that they were being required to write up their own awards..
Of course, being a contractor there, I was not eligible for anything, although I did receive a very nice certificate of achievement.
