Sorry Gib but the possum is a native American animal.

It used to be limited in range to the South East. The first mention of possums or opossum was in Jamestown, Virginia in 1607. The name comes from the Algonquian Indians.

It is true it is becoming a national pest, with quite a bunch here in Oregon now.

It is however true that there are several similar marsupials in Australia. Perhaps they are more cuddly that the tooth snouted American variety.
