Maybe you could draw a parallel by comparing the American Indian tribes to the tribes in Iraq. Seems the indians were in the middle of it, but came out on the short end of the stick. Other than that I don't see any similarity between the colonist and Iraq citizens. As for the Civil war, I don't recall any country jumping in the middle of it, but I think attempts were made to draw them in. The world isn't our oyster, to do as we will. It'll never be that small.
