Clapster~

don't underestimate how much good the outdoor walking
can do you.

over the years that we've been here (around 28 now),
we've watched a couple of our neighbours from down
the road, who both took heart attacks, walk their weight
off over a season or two.

kind of amazing to watch them go from slowly walking by,
and then a bit quicker, and the weight sort of melting away
week by week.

i used to be a runner, but now i rarely jog anymore
as i have some arthritis in my ankles and don't like
to stress my joints more than i have to.
however, as you know, i walk a lot. it's a good work out.
i would say that duration is more important than speed
as far as doing you major good.

i do also work out with weights (at home) in winter
as i have to do that to keep my upper body strong
for canoe-tripping in summer.
i work out for about 40-60 minutes each evening...
nothing too heavy -- about 20 pounds on the bar
and 2 pound hand weights.
again, i'm going for duration rather than weight
as paddling a canoe is more about endurance
and less about muscle power.

just some thoughts.
