Rentech and Headwaters Subsidiary Dissolve FT Solutions Joint Venture

DENVER (AP) -- Rentech Inc., a developer and licenser of technology that turns gas into liquid fuels and chemicals, said Friday it dissolved a 50-50 joint venture with a subsidiary of Utah-based chemicals company Headwaters Inc., called FT Solutions LLC.

The venture was formed in June 2004 to combine each company's iron-based Fischer-Tropsch technologies, Rentech said. Rentech added the companies had an "excellent working relationship" during the venture but didn't agree on overall business plan goals related to commercial Fischer-Tropsch development.

The Fischer-Tropsch process converts gas to liquids or coal to liquids. Rentech uses this process to convert hydrocarbon into alternative fuels.

Rentech shares closed up 2 cents at $4.21 on the American Stock Exchange, while Headwaters shares closed up 5 cents to $37.25 on the New York Stock Exchange.
