Things have been even worse in the past. I just watched "Amistad" again on HBO. Poor John Quincy Adams had to go before a Supreme Court and argue for freedom for the Amistad slaves when seven of then nine justices were slaveholders themselves, and the case had been referred by the President, also a slaveholder. He won.

The right has managed to scare and con Americans into making them a majority in two of the three branches of governemnt. That gives them the right to appoint the people they want to the court, and barring filibuster, get them confirmed - it's the way our government works.

It's sad that Bush has not seen fit to follow the precedent of previous recent Presidents and simply appoint people that would draw a majority of votes from both sides, actual concensus candidates. That's just the chimp's divisive governing style, get to 51% and the rest can kiss his ass. The chimp is an asshole, and he's PROUD of it. Many of his supporters are assholes.

I'm not too worried VERY long term. I think what will eventually (of the many things that could) bring the chimpistration down will be his financial recklessness. He's never had to worry about money, and he projects that onto our government. Of course, we'll ALL pay, severely. It's not unlike the Republican administrations of the 1920's, and we know where THAT led. One of the results was 50 years of Democratic control of government.
