I don't know either. People are more interested in the next season of american idol than the state of their civil liberties and the future of their country. Stossel (who is alway questionable but interesting anyway) did a piece on how stupid American high schoolers are. He was talking about a standardized test given to kids the world over. If I remember correctly, the class in Belgium got a 76 while the class in New Jersey got a 46. Apparently, after the fourth grade, American kids become progressively stupider and stupider in relation to their international counterparts and, I suspect, their parents become absolute dolts during the same time period. This would explain a great deal about the state of politics and public discourse here. It's a bad thing to see the Belgium kids dissing their American counterparts as idiots but they have the facts on their side.
