Amec, UKAEA and CH2M form alliance in 52 bln stg UK nuclear clean-up market
LONDON (AFX)
- Construction group Amec PLC said it has formed the first alliance to compete in the UK's 56 bln stg nuclear clean-up market.
Amec PLC said it is linking up with the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) and US construction and engineering firm CH2M in the venture, which it says responds to a government decision to open the UK civil nuclear decommissioning market to competition.
It said the alliance will initially target selected sites among the UK's 20 civil nuclear installations which are now being opened to competition by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA).
Around half of these are expected to be bid for by the end of 2008. Beyond this market, the partners will explore further international opportunities such as the multi-billion pound market in Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union.
Amec (LSE: AMEC.L - news) chief executive Sir Peter Mason said: 'This team has the right blend of nuclear and commercial skills to win a sizeable slice of the 2 bln stg a year market.'...
