A simple answer is gold headed down during the deflationary bust last time out in assets during the RTC and Japan downturn.. If your deflation is in the near future no chance in hell would gold be powering higher now. Similar to 1929 crash I would think it would rise from the ashes near the bottom of the depression cycle three years later.
