Maurice
I have often heard the same thing said by immigrants in the USA. Many, Islanders from the Caribbean, people from central and So. America,Brits and Europeans especially. Never from Mexicans though apparently they have NO desire to go back.
TJ, people go to live in HK to make money. Then they leave. People need money. We did it = went to live in less desirable places because there was loads of money there. Then, having collected sufficient money, cleared out again. They don't go to Hong Kong for the wild blue yonder, feeling of freedom, yearning to breathe free in the polluted air. It's primarily cash.

The problem is nothing stays the same for long in our changing world. Brits who return after 20 or 30 years are appalled at the ratio of anglo-v-everything else, in Britain today. It isn't Home isn't the England they knew. Riding the "tube" in London today has a very third world feel to it. Some towns, Bradford, for example, more closely resemble Indian or Pakistan.

From your favorite source GOOGLE

"2. A comparison of the censuses of 1991 and 2001 shows a clear pattern of decline in the white population of the more highly ethnic local authorities in the metropolitan areas of Greater Manchester, West Midlands and West Yorkshire. The cities of Manchester, Birmingham and Bradford respectively have shown the largest overall decline in white population in each of these areas.

3. This has been accompanied by a rapid increase in the Pakistani population in these three cities by between 45.8% and 52.8%. The smaller Bangladeshi population has also seen large increases.

4. A major factor is the high rate of marriage to partners on the Indian Sub Continent which we estimate at 50-70%. This substantially increases the rate of household formation and, certainly in the first generation, the size of families."

My point here, is not to debate the correctness of immigration policy or whether it is Colonial Karma coming home to roost. Just to point out the facts. England isn't "English" anymore and it isn't safe and it isn't free. Add to that the enourmous cost of living and Hong Kong sounds a better bet.

TJ is correct in that there is much wrong with the USA today from the money expansion to political corruption and everything in between but where isn't there? If somebody knows then please enlighten me.

regards

Ray
