Does anyone here know of a web site that helps put various threats in perspective? Media outlets are useless for perspective because they simply provide entertainment to the public and assume no obligation to inform. I can't help but think that the priorities under discussion are all skewed. There are a lot of big issues, but few people bother trying to put them in perspective. If we want policies to save lives, we could start by putting criminal negligence penalties on health care workers that don't wash their hands. That would save far more lives than completely eliminating all violent crime, including gang violence. Our TV is full of programs promoting superstition and anti-empiricism, our media exists only to stoke irrational plebian fears, and our politicians refuse to lead, but instead flutter whichever way the populist wind blows. Is there no hope? -g
