I prefer to act interested then use an excuse to set the phone down to see how long they will simmer before giving up.

The longer a telemarketer stays on the phone after each call, the higher the cost per call (assuming no sale). If everyone would do their part and keep telemarketers on the phone for a minute, the industry would not be affordable.
