YOU CAN'T HAVE HIM!!! That biotech guy. The guy can do ANYTHING. Grows beautiful roses. Added a 2nd story to his house by himself. Redid the kitchen by himself. Does my plumbing repairs (I HATE plumbing!). Amazing!

There had seemed to be a thread contempt against China, overall. Your comments are both wise and kind--and redress that impression.
Remember all the bitching and moaning by Canadians about softwood timber? It wasn't all directed just at the US gov't. There were nasty remarks made about Americans too. Now: The Chinese use 2 currencies, one for external trade and one for internal use. This is obviously an invitation to trade mischief that no gov't can resist. And the Chinese gov't has made full use of it. To sum the matter up in a word, they cheat. The only reason the US puts up with it is the gov't hopes the Chinese might talk some sense to the North Koreans about nuclear weapons. Which has been a vain hope so far and I have no doubt will remain so. Personally, I think we ought to make the NKs an offer they can't refuse.
But the 2 situations are similar: Canadians insulting Americans about trade matters ans Americans insulting Chinese about trade matters.

The Chinese are natural capitalists and provoking their Government will not advance western interests. Nixon's initiative showed profound wisdom.
It was observed long ago that the surest way of getting something done is have its traditional enemies propose it. In this case, NO ONE could accuse RN of being soft on Communism. Any Dem was vulnerable to that charge. Repubs inclined to bitch were attacking their own President. And the Dems mostly wanted it. It passes with little opposition.
