We may be entering a period of crisis -- so far the war has been pitched as something costless and only the legal liberal nerds care about little things like torture and wiretapping. Should we find ourselves in some sort of open conflict with Iran, all bets are off on basic civil liberties - and the reason for this is simple enough: We face severe energy shortages if we lose supply from Iran. The knock on consequences of sky high oil are incalculable.
